A curfew for Maungdaw township that was supposed to end on Dec.8 is being extended. Authorities say the situation on the ground is still unstable after sectarian violence broke out in June and October.

The curfew makes life very hard for the Rohingya community by restricting their movement, making it difficult to work, according to one elder who didn’t want his name used. This situation has been made even more unbearable by the fact that the government has allowed very little aid to reach the estimated 115,000 displaced by the violence – the majority being Muslims.
