Maungdaw police confiscated so called weapons from Rohingya villagers recently.

In the morning, at about 5 am, police raided Bumu Para village. They seized all the kitchen knives and farm tools they could find, but they also found slingshots.

One woman said they have no knives left to cut vegetables.

“This is just another way to harass us. It’s not a safety measure to take our kitchen knives, their only trying to save face,” said one elder who spoke on elder on condition of
anonymity.

The central government issued a statement on Oct.31 for everyone living in areas affected by sectarian violence that broke out in June and October to hand over their weapons. But the Arakan State government gave people three days. Many people turned in handmade guns.
