Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh: A company commander-level flag meeting between the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Burma’s border security force (Nasaka) was held in the Ghundum area of Naikkongchori Upazila along the Bangladesh-Burma border yesterday afternoon, according to a BGB official.

“Col. Mohammad Khalequzzaman of Battalion No. 17 led an 11-member Bangladesh BGB team while Nasaka Deputy Commander of area No. 3 in Maungdaw Township led a 13-member team.”

Col. Mohammad Khalekuzzaman said, “We requested Nasaka personnel not to force Rohingyas to leave the country [Myanmar].”

In response, the Nasaka officials said they would patrol the Burma-Bangladesh border to stop the incursion of Rohingyas into Bangladesh, the Col. added.

According to sources, in the two-hour long meeting both sides agreed to restore peace to the Burma-Bangladesh border.

Additionally, both sides discussed 238 Bangladeshi prisoners who have been locked in a Burmese jail. Nasaka forces in the border areas captured them while they were cutting wood and fishing in the Naff River. Sources claimed that an agreement would be reached for their release.
