Cox’s Bazar , Bangladesh : Nine Rohingyas have been detained since March 17th in the Sakaria police station, Cox’s Bazar District, and are being investigated for crossing the border illegally, according to a police official.

They were arrested by police fromSakariain the early morning of March 17, atBodor Khali Village, while they were working in a field. They are accused of living and working in the area without any documents.

The operation was led by Sub-Inspector Mohamed ShohelAhamed and Assistant Sub-Inspector Whidu, of the Sakaria police station.

The arrestees have been identified as Ziabul (18), Md. Alam (19), Yousuf (18), MonjurAlam (20), Munna (40), Abdu Sukkur (20), Md. Jubair (18), Taher (20) and AhamedHussain (52), all from ArakanState , Burma.

Most of the youths crossed the Burma – Bangladesh border and work in Bangladesh to support their family members as they can’t find work because of restrictions imposed on Rohingyas by the Burmese government.

As well, they are forced to work as laborers for theBurmese Army and border guardsand are harassed, said Karim, who was arrested by police.
