Maungdaw, Arakan State: Passenger vehicles that ply the route between Maungdaw and Anndin are not able to take a rest in Maungdaw South after arriving, said a driver from Maungdaw.

“The Officer of Burma’s Border Security Force (Nasaka) Camp No. 18 of Inndin is requisitioning the passengers’ vehicles which arrive in Inndin, keeping the vehicles with security personnel the whole night without paying anything.”

“Sub-Lieutenant Aung Zaw Min, the officer in charge, is giving orders to requisition the passenger vehicles.”

The security personnel move to requisition the vehicles the whole night so the drivers and staff are not able to take a rest before working the next day. The security personnel do not pay anything to the driver for the use of the vehicles, said an officer from the Village Administration Office.

“The security personnel use the vehicles to move around Thawin Chaung (Baara) and Tinnbawkway (Khudaung), which are far from Camp No. 18 of Inndin.”

“No vehicles want to ply the Maungdaw-Inndin route because of security personnel requisition, and they aren’t able to take a rest in the night while the vehicles are in Inndin. The local people are facing more difficulties to go and back and forth from Maungdaw and Inndin.”

“Sometimes, motorcycles are also requisitioned by security personnel for their personal purposes, and the cycle owners have to fill the fuel tanks of the cycles.”

In the camp, there are motorcycles for use of camp staff, but security personnel are using public cycles for their personal business, said a trader who often travels to Maungdaw.
