Maungdaw, Arakan State: A Rohingya man named Rashid reportedly gave a five million kyat bribe in an attempt to overturn a local election result, according to a politician from Maungdaw.

The recipient of the sum was U Aung Myint Soe, District Administration Officer in Maungdaw, the man responsible for supervising an election for Labawzarr Village Administration Officer. Evidently, Rashid had contested the election but lost to a man named Kasein, a schoolteacher from Labawzarr told Kaladan.

The money was not given directly to the District Administration Officer but conveyed to him by an intermediary named Ahyas.

“We are very worried for Kaseim because of this bribe, “ said an elder from the Labawzarr village.
