Ukhiya, Bangladesh: The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a Bangladeshi drug trafficker with over 1000 yaba tablets at the Bangladesh-Burma border on October 12, according to a local official.

“Bokter Ahmed 30, son of Abdul Majed of Balukhali Panbazar, was the drug trafficker who was arrested during the operation.”

“Yaba tablets worth Taka 320,000 were seized,” the official said.

The official also noted that most Yaba tablets are smuggled to Bangladesh from Burma at different crossing points along their common border and that one group of drug traffickers now monopolizes the drug traffic.

Recently, a group of high-level delegation from Bangladesh went to Burma to discuss this drug trafficking issue, according to official sources.

Khandaker Mohamed Ali, the Drug Control Director, led the 10-person delegation.

Also among the team from Bangladesh were Omar Faruk, Additional Director (Dhaka), Abu Taher, the Ministry of Home Affairs Deputy Secretary, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), the Police, the RAB, the Coastguard and the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
