Maungdaw, Arakan State: Burma border security force (Nasaka) has been using forced labor for their camp construction since October 11, said an elder from Ywet Nhyo Taung village.

“Nasaka personnel are using forced labor from neighboring villages to build a Nasaka out-post in Rohiyong Daung (Ywet Nhyo Taung) village tract under the Nasaka area No.5 of Maungdaw Township.”

“There are twenty one villages including Ywet Nhyo Taung village have to supply the work forces every day to build the Nasaka out post .”

“Every day, twelve villagers per one village have to go to the work site from every village with their own food.”

The village administration officer always use forced labor from poor villagers, and not from the rich villagers who are able to pay money to the village administration office, according to a school teacher from a village of work forces supply.

A daily labor from the locality said on condition of anonymity, “If the forced labor is extracted from us continuously, we will be starved with our family members as our family members are depended on me.

However, the government earlier declared that there is no forced labor across the country. But, the concerned authority is still taking forced labor from the people.
