Vehicle owners face harassment of authority in Maungdaw

Maungdaw, Arakan State: Vehicle owners are facing harassment of authority in Maungdaw, according to a vehicle owner who didn’t want to mention his name from Maungdaw.

“Vehicles owners from Maungdaw, especially bus owners are facing more harassment from security officer (Military Intelligent service).”

“Putuya, a bus owner was picked up with his bus which ply from Maungdaw-Alaythankyaw road to the Military Intelligent service office at 16:00 hour and released 23:00hour after taking 10,000.000 kyats without giving any reason on September 23.”

Sergeant Than Win, Military Intelligent officer picked up the vehicle with passengers and the owner, Putuya to the Military Intelligent office, where the vehicle was released with passengers after one hour, but the officer kept Putuya in the officer and asked one million kyats for release. When Putuya refused to pay the demand money, the Military Intelligent officer tortured till mid night for money, said a relative of Putuya.

Putuya was picked up from Maungdaw south bus terminal near Maungdaw High School.

Maungdaw vehicle owners are worried for life security after Putuya accident on September 23, said an elder from Maungdaw. “The owners become worry when the security officer will pick up and torture as there is no law in Maungdaw for authority to do anything to the Rohingya community.”

Whenever the authority want money from Rohingya community, the officer made some false allegation and picked up to their office  where the officer tortured to get the money, said  Anwer, a youth from Maungdaw.
