Maungdaw, Arakan State: Burma’s border security force (Nasaka), distributed rubber saplings to the villages since September 1, with exchange of money in Nasaka area number 6, said one of the village administration officers on condition of anonymity.

“The Maungdaw Township Administration officer ordered to the villages head officer, to supply rubber saplings to every house of villages and collect Kyat 2,500 per house. There are nine villages in Nasaka area No.6.”

“The villages head officers have been providing five rubber saplings to every house to grow it in their compounds as per order of Township Administration officer. The headmen collect Kyat 2,500 from every house for rubber saplings. But, the collecting money is going to the local Nasaka camp.”

The rubber saplings are grown in the Nasaka Headquarters, so the village headmen have to carry the saplings to the villages from the nursery of Nasaka Headquarters of Kyi Gan Pyin for distribution, said another local village elder.

“Every year, the Nasaka provides rubber saplings to the villagers of Maungdaw Township to grow in their compound, but the  villagers do not nurse it and the authority also does not take care of it whether it is well grown or not. It is only to get money from the villagers.”

“The Nasaka will get a lot of money after selling rubber saplings to the local villagers.”

“If any one refuses to buy the saplings, he/she will be punished,” said a local trader quoting the Township Administration Officer.

Nasaka always try how to get money from the local people and how to discriminate against Rohingya community as per training by the higher authority, said a Nasaka aide who denied to be named.

“Villagers have to pay money to the Nasaka for so many systems which created by Nasaka that may face many troubles to manage the money.”
