“We don’t know how many people died in the rural areas and other parts of Maungdaw.”

The diarrhea breakout in Maungdaw since last two weeks, but people didn’t care and pay no attention on it, said Kala Meah, a school teacher  from Shweza village  tract.

“In our village, mother died in the hospital with diarrhea while her son died in home on August 27.  After that, people have  becoming attention on the diseases.”

Most of the people are not able to admit to the hospital for high demand of money by the staff while taking admission. Some NGOs which take care of health, are giving  the rural people to admit in the hospital with financial support, but the hospital staff still want money from people with high demand, said an aide worker from a NGO. “People with less financial status are not willing to go to the hospital.”

“No concerned authorities give attention on it which takes the life of people, after that all the people from Maungdaw become aware on it. But, it is too late to save the life.  With the record of hospital, more than fifteen people died, but nobody knows how many people died in the rural areas.”

Diarrhea is the frequent passing of loose or watery stools. Acute diarrhea, which is a common cause of death in developing countries, appears rapidly and may last from five to ten days. Chronic diarrhea lasts much longer and is the second cause of childhood death in the developing world. Diarrhea is sometimes accompanied by abdominal cramps or fever. It may be caused by infection, allergy, or could be a sign of a serious disorder, such as IBD (inflammatory bowel disease), or Crohn's disease.

According to Medilexicon's medical dictionary, diarrhea is "An abnormally frequent discharge of semisolid or fluid fecal matter from the bowel."
