Maungdaw, Arakan State: The Deputy Western Command Commander visited Maungdaw on August 25, and continued journey to Bawli Bazar, the northern part of Maungdaw Township, said a Nasaka aide from Maungdaw north.
“The Deputy Western Command Commander accompanied by TOC -Tactical Operation Commander of Buthidaung, District administration officer, Township administration officer and Director of Nasaka Headquarters went to north side of Maungdaw with ten cars and met with local officers on August 25, at about 10:00am. The commander and group returned to the Nasaka Headquarters of Kyi Gan Pyin (Kawar Bill) of Maungdaw Township at 4:30pm”.
On August 26, the Western commander also visited Maungdaw south, met with local officers and discussed with them and then returned to Nasaka Headquarters, said a local trader who denied to be named.
“The Commander’s visit to Maungdaw is not known to public, but Nasaka aides said that Nasaka (Burma’s border security force) personnel will be transferred. Therefore, the Western commander is very busy for Nasaka’s transfer. The commander is still living at Nasaka Headquarters.”
“Two hundred Nasaka personnel arrived in Nasaka Headquarter and some of them are stationed in Three mile gate on Maungdaw - Buthidaung highway.”
By the way, today (on August 27) is the holy day for Muslims, so the Rohingya people celebrate Shab-e-Qadr tonight by slaughtering the cows in the village. Taking this opportunity the Nasaka (Burma’s border security force) ordered to the village chairmen to provide them one Viss of beef and Kyat 5,000 per cow to the Nasaka camp and out-post camps.(One Viss=1.64 kg). It is learnt that the beef is special for Nasaka who will transfer to other place, said a local businessman.
Muslims across the country will observe the holy Shab-e-Qadr or Lailatul Qadr Saturday night. According to the Holy Quran, the night is better than 1,000 nights as the angels and the spirit descend therein, by the permission of Almighty Allah with all decrees.
The devout Muslims traditionally observe the occasion through nightlong special prayers, religious discussions at mosques and in their houses on this night.
Thousands of Muslim devotees also visit graveyards to seek eternal blessings for the departed souls of their near and dear ones
It is doubtful for the Rohingya community that they will go freely to the graveyards to give eternal blessings for the departed souls of their parents and relatives as the Nasaka’s movement restriction at night, said a local elder.
