“In Maungdaw Town, there are six wards and one village tract named Myoma Kayan Dan (Shikdar Para). It has four Rakhine administration officers and three Rohingya administration officers, including one village tract administration officer. The ward numbers 1, 3, 4 and 6 have Rakhine administration officers, and ward numbers 2 and 5 and the village tract have Rohingya administration officers.”

“As a result, the TAO officer Aung Kyaw Oo has to receive Kyat 14 million from the ward administration officers per month. Therefore, the ward administration officers must extract money from town dwellers by any means to fulfill the demand of the TAO officer; otherwise, their positions will be sacked.”

A local teacher said, “To get money, the ward Administration officers harass the town dwellers by giving arbitrary allegations and extorting money so that the discrimination can increase against the dwellers. This situation is created by the TAO officer U Aung Kyaw Oo.”

Additionally, the TAO officer has been disturbing one town dweller named Mohamed Shah. He has two daughters, and the said officer has gone to his house to disturb his daughters. Mohamed Shah has no strength to stop him. So, Mohamed Shah went to Aley Than Kya village, 12 miles south of Maungdaw Town, after selling his home and land to give protection to his daughters, said a close relative of Mohamed Shah.

Although Mohamed Shah has moved to Aley Than Kyaw village, the TAO officer travels to that village by car and continues to disturb his daughters.

Though Mohamed Shah raised this matter with the concerned authorities, there has yet to be any action taken against Aung Kyaw Oo.

Maungdaw Town has become a lawless place, with the authorities doing as they wish against the Rohingya community, said a local elder from Maungdaw town on condition of anonymity.
