Kutupalong, Bangladesh: Three refugees from the unregistered Kutupalong camp were seriously injured in an accident near the camp early this morning, said Alam, a refugee elder.

“The accident, a Jeep turn-over, occurred while the refugees were going to work early in the morning to avoid arrest in Ukiya.”

“In the accident, three refugees were seriously injured, while another seventeen refugees were slightly injured. The MSF Clinic gave treatment to the refugees who had minor injuries, while the seriously injured persons were transferred to the Cox’s Bazaar Hospital,” said a refugee leader who prefers to remain anonymous.

“Syed, whose leg was broken, Lalu, who was injured near his waist, and Mohamed Youns, whose hand was injured, were transferred to Cox’s Bazaar.”

“In the accident, there were six female refugees. One woman named Hasina hurt her hand, but she was not transferred to Cox’s Bazaar.”

The Refugees from Kutupalong camp (registered and unregistered) are afraid of arrest by authorities or attack by locals following the events of July 16. The authorities warned the refugees not to go out after 8:00 pm, and some security personnel are making rounds inside the unregistered camp during the daytime, said a source from Kutupalong.

“After some locals attacked refugees on July 16, the refugees are not able to go outside to look for their survival.”
