Bandarban, Bangladesh: Eight Rohingya were sent to Bandarban Jail from a Bangladeshi court after being convicted on April 12, said a local trader.

The eight were arrested by Bangladeshi police from the area of Chatkahnia under the Bandaban District on April 11 following a raid.

Police from Chatkhania Police Station filed a case against of them and provided evidence at court.

The Rohingya were accused by the concerned authorities of living in Bangladesh illegally, officials said.

The arrested have been identified as Mohamed Sayed (45), Nabi Hussain (20), Mohamed Yousuf (28), Gura Meah (45), Shamsul Alam (28), Mohamed Zubair (25), Hafez Ahmed (45), and Anuwar Sadek (26).

Officer Mohamed Khaled Hossain said that as many Rohingya live illegally along the border area, the operation by the concerned authorities will continue.
