Teknaf, Bangladesh: The body of a registered Rohingya refugee was found in a stream nearby the Nayapara Refugee Camp today, said a refugee from Nayapara.

dead-body--02“The dead body was identified as Kamal, age 28, Block-H of Nayapara Camp. Kamal went out from his shed after dinner yesterday night, but he did not return to his shed the whole night.”

“His family members had been looking for him since yesterday,” the refugee said.

When a group of refugees went to the forest to collect firewood, they saw the body in a stream near the camp today, according to a refugee firewood collector.

The refugees rushed to the camp and informed their fellow refugees and community leaders, including camp authorities, the firewood collector said.

According to an eyewitness, the victim’s throat was tied with a longyi (a Burmese sarong), and he appeared to have sustained injuries to his head. A mobile phone was in his hand, and 220 taka was in his pocket.

“The family members don't know who killed him.”

Later, police from the Teknaf Police Station went to the spot and recovered the victim’s body from the stream. The body was taken to Teknaf Police Station at 12:45 p.m.
