Teknaf, Bangladesh: Following successful raids on drug traffickers last week, the Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) seized additional Yaba methamphetamine tablets at the Dum Dum Meah check-post under Teknaf Police Station on March 4, said a trader from Teknaf.

The BGB of Teknaf Battalion No. 42 checked a Modern bus and found nearly 1,200 Yaba tablets under a seat while the bus was on its way to Cox’s Bazaar from Teknaf. No arrests were made, however.

The operation was led by company officer Mohamed Halim, reported an official.

The following day, the BGB seized ten bottles of foreign wine at check-post during a raid.

According to officials, many Yaba tablets and other foreign drugs come to Bangladesh from Burma through syndicates who live along the Bangladesh-Burma border.

The Bangladeshi authorities are trying to stop the trafficking of drugs into their country, and have recently tightened security along the Bangladesh border, sources said.

Last week, Bangladeshi authorities arrested three Bangladeshi peddlers with a total of 470 Yaba methamphetamine tablets in Cox’s Bazaar on March 2.
