The price of petrol and diesel in Myitkyina, the capital of Kachin State has dropped since early October in private shops in town, a source said.
 
According to residents in Myitkyina earlier one gallon of petrol cost 5,000 Kyat (US $4) at private outlets but now it is down to 4,000 Kyat (US $3).  Earlier, diesel was 7,000 Kyat (US $6). Now it is 6,000 Kyat (US $5).

"Though the price of fuel has come down the prices prevailing are not the same at each private outlet in town," a resident told KNG.

Most of the private shops buy the fuel from government owned outlets and sell it in town, he added.

The cost of fuel, however at government owned shop has not changed and it is 2,500 Kyat (US $2) per gallon. But not every resident can buy from the government owned outlets.

Meanwhile, the ruling Burmese military junta has extended the deadline for applying for motorcycle licenses for owners of illegal Chinese-made two wheelers in Kachin State by a month. The deadline is now November 30.
