The Burmese military junta has confiscated pastures on the mountainside putting cowherds in Myitkyina, the capital of Kachin State in northern Burma in a spot.

The Burmese authorities and their business cronies have confiscated at least 500 acres of pastures and cowherds have nowhere to graze their cattle, a cowherd in Myitkyina told KNG.

"They have seized our land for rubber plantations and medicinal leaf plots," he said.

To make matters worse the authorities have been taking money from the cowherds if their cattle are seen grazing in the confiscated land, he added.

Meanwhile, residents in these areas are being forced to work in plantations because of the seizure of their land by the Burmese military authorities and their partners. The residents have lost a lot of land, a resident said.
