There is a flurry of activity by Burmese military junta authorities as the deadline for the referendum to approve the constitution approaches. A series of meetings with the polling booth commission is being held in, sources said.

The Township Peace and Development Council (TPDC or Ma-Ya-Ka) chairman U San Aung held a meeting on Friday with the polling booth commission in Kachin quarter and told them to organize advance votes from the quarters three days before referendum scheduled for May 10.

"The chairman told us to collect advance votes of residents who can't vote on the scheduled date", said a participant at the meeting on condition of anonymity.

A referendum meeting was also held on Sunday by the District Peace and Development Council (DPDC) with the polling booth commission.

"We have been busy with referendum meetings, even on Sunday. We had to go to the meeting," said another participant.
