This week saw a continuation of fighting between government forces and Kachin Independence Army (KIA)  brigade 3; battalion (12) and (27), in Mabein township in northern Shan state.

Clashes broke out at Saga Nam Hkum close to Je U.

On Tuesday and Wednesday government soldiers repeatedly shelled Mung Ding Pa, according to a KIA officer from the area that wished to remain anonymous. A child was killed and four residents injured from an exploded shell, according to village reports.

About 60 civilians from Mung Ding Pa escaped to nearby Mung Hkawng, an aid worker told the Kachin News Group. Residents not able to flee have taken shelter in the village church with fighting ensuing around them.

In the last 48 hours government army units in Mansi township attacked Mung Hkawng and Nam Lim Pa villages utilizing forces that were dispatched from nearby Kawng Ja.

As of yesterday, Nam Lim Pa has been completely surrounded by government forces. They shelled the village home to 1000 displaced civilians well into the afternoon, according to a besieged villager that didn’t want their name used for security reasons. At least four people were injured, but their exact medical conditions were not determined at the time of press.
