Government troops in three trucks were attacked on the road between Namsu and Nawgu, between Kyukok (Pangsai) and Mongkoe (Munggu), by the Mongkoe-based KIA troops in Battalions 36 and 38 as the trucks headed to Mongkoe from Muse, added a local witness.

One of the three trucks burned after the attack and two injured soldiers have been transported to Mongkoe Hospital, eyewitnesses said.

It was the second attack on government troops in Mongkoe by the KIA.

The first attack on Sept. 18 near Mongkoe killed seven and injured four.

The fighting is now spreading in the Kutkai, Namtu, Mantong, Muse and Mongkoe areas in Northern Shan State, since the government launched its storm-offensive against all KIA battalions in the region on Sept. 24.
