Burmese troops fired artillery at each other at Mung Hkawng Village, Manje Township, in Bhamo (Manmaw) Division, on July 28, a resident said.

A column of Burmese Army Infantry Battalion No. 105, based in Sarhmaw, accidently set off a landmine placed by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) on July 27, at Pang Sap, near Mung Hkawng Village, and they fired artillery at Mung Hkawng, where their main camp is located.

The artillery fire between Burmese troops started after KIA battalion 27 shot at the Burmese troops still positioned in the area of the land mine explosion, said a KIA official.

“That Burmese column fired its artillery at least four times around 2:30 p.m. The shells fell near a school, Roman Catholic Mission Church and also their IB 105 main camp, which responded by shelling the convoy at least twice,” the resident of the village said.

According to a KIA source they did not accidentally shell each other but the Burmese army column was angry because no reinforcements have been sent from the main camp at Mung Hkawng

IB 105 and their front line army column were about 3 miles apart. There is no information about casualties.
