Four Burmese soldiers were killed and more than 12 were wounded on July 26, during an evening ambush at Kamaing, in Burma’s Northern Kachin State, by Kachin Independence Army (KIA) troops, witnesses said.

Two trucks with government troops from the railway-town Sarhmaw-based Infantry Battalion No. 105 were attacked by KIA troops from Battalion 6, under Brigade 2, on the Namti-Hpakant road at Nga Pauk Kone, near Kamaing, when they were travelling to Hpakant jade mining city, according to KIA brigade officers.

A KIA officer said one truck was loaded with weapons and rations and the other truck carried troops.

On Wednesday morning, short skirmishes occurred at a Burmese army post at Katsu Village in Myitkyina-Manmaw (Bhamo) when members of the KIA People’s Army attacked the Burmese post at about 5 a.m., said local residents.

There were no casualties in the military clashes, sources from the KIA People’s Army reported to the Thailand-based Kachin News Group.

Military clashes have increased between the government and Kachin armies in Kachin State and Shan State, while ceasefire negotiations are taking place.

A short ceasefire agreement is expected to be signed soon, if the current negotiations are a success, KIO officers in its Laiza headquarters said.
