KIA attacks Burmese troops in Dum Bung Krung

June 16, 2011- The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) used firepower and attacked Burmese troops in Dum Bung Krung at 8:30 p.m. local time in the area controlled by KIA's Battalion 15 in N'mawk (Momauk) township, Manmaw (Bhamo) district in Kachin State, said a KIA officer from the frontline.

The Kachin Independence Army’s Battalion 8 retaliated to the Burmese Army offensive by detaining six Burmese soldiers including a captain in Northern Shan State this afternoon around 2 p.m., KIA officers said.

The Burmese soldiers were surrounded and detained with their arms without a single shot being fired by the KIA soldiers.

The KIA's Battalion 8 led by Major Lashi Naw Din under its Brigade 4 is based in Namtu township in Northern Shan State.

The fighting continued past midnight, added the KIA officer.
