In a blatant move to make money, members of pro-Burmese military junta organizations are taking away motorcycle licenses issued from the Transportation Department (Ka Nya Na) and reselling it to residents at high prices.

Ka Nya Na had decided to legalise 2,500 illegal motorbikes imported from Thailand for Thanpyuzayart township residents and started issuing licenses to people yesterday.

Ka Nya Na gave each military regime employee and pro-government organization members' two licenses for distribution but some employees and some organization members took between five to 80 licenses.

Local people alleged that the government staff and organization members such as the "Sorn Arr Shin" organization known as People
Vigorous Association (PVA), Firemen, Union Solidarity and Development Association (USDA) and The Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association (MMCWA) took all the license issued for distribution.

"Even as the Ka Nya Na started issuing licenses the people did not get the license directly. Now we have to buy the license form and have to approach these organization members," a resident who applied for a license told IMNA.

According to Ka Nya Na's announcement for a motorbike license people have to pay 260,000 (205 US $) Kyat but local people have to pay up to 400,000 (315 US $) to USDA members and other organization members for a license.

Ka Nya Na was selling the license forms for 20,000 Kyat, but USDA resold it for 50,000 Kyat to 80,000 Kyat. Given the deadline for issuing licenses local residents are in hurry to get it.

"We are finding it difficult to get the forms and the license. Ka Nya Na officials told us that all the forms and licenses are gone. USDA and other pro government members took then all, reasoning that they wanted it for their relatives and friends. Actually they resold it at high prices. We can only buy the form from USDA and other government organization members," another resident said.

The pro government organization members are working as brokers for issuing licenses and everybody has to approach them paying high prices.

Ka Nya Na announced that it will issue 200 licenses each day and will move to Mudon Township after Thanpyuzayart Township .
