Rangoon authorities check family members list a second time
For the second time authorities are checking the list of family members in a Rangoon suburb. The checking may be related to the impending referendum, said local residents.

"All members of families have been summoned for their photograph taken as part of a new registration updating process in the government office," said a resident.
This order comes from the immigration office and they are rechecking the civilian population. No further information is available, he said.
"They are checking the family list face to face. If some one is missing in the family list we have to give a reason why. If the family member is studying abroad, we have to five them detailed information," said a woman who experienced checks by the authorities.
In 2007, the government launched an identification process for all people who are over 18 years around the country for ID cards.
It is not clear why they are registering for the ID process but many local people assume that it is related to the referendum.
The New Life of Myanmar , the government controlled newspaper reported that the approval of the Constitution draft will be sought in a National Referendum to be held in May 2008.
In accordance with the forthcoming State Constitution, multi-party general elections will be held in 2010.
