The Panglong agreement is just not an agreement on the table, it is in the sprit, said a Mon Democratic Front (MNDF) leader on the 61st anniversary of Union Day.
The MNDF wants to request the Burmese military regime on Union Day to implement the 1947 Panglong agreement which guarantees ethnic people equal rights and the right of self-determination, said the MNDF leader.

"The 1947 Panglong agreement is just not on the table. It is an agreement in the sprit. The government must implement the Panglong agreement in sprit and it should be done faithfully," he added.

The New Mon State Party spokesperson Nai Orngmagae said that if the government wants to build a union, they must stop oppressing ethnic people and allow the ethnics to practice their fundamental rights
 freely.

If the government continues oppressing ethnic people, there will be more demands for separation in the country and more new revolutions will tale place, said Nai Ongmagae.

The MNDF is a Mon political party which contested the Burmese general election in 1990 and it was abolished by the government in 1992. And NMSP is a ceasefire group which singed an agreement with junta in 1995.
