Khitar Non – The groundwork was laid on August 19, during a planning meeting for an upcoming Mon National Seminar in the capital city of Moulmein.

19-1A meeting of the recently formed Mon National Congress (MNC) is scheduled to follow before year’s end. An organizing executive committee of the MNC has already been formed, according to Nai Tin Aung, vice chairman of Mon Democracy Party (MDP).

“For the first stage, we will hold a seminar, and for the second stage, we will hold a congress for all Mon national in December before the end of the year,” said Nai Tin Aung.

These are necessary “to create our own fate”, the vice chairman said. The congress and the seminar, which is in late September, will strengthen Mon ethnic nationality’s politics and improve economics. They will help to deal with the 2008 constitution, he said.

The New Mon State Party (NMSP), Mon Democracy Party (MDP) and All Mon Region Democracy Party (AMDP) are leading members of both functions.

Dr. Min Kyi Win, MDP, is the chairman for the MNC organizing executive committee, the vice chairman is Nai Hongsa Bonkhain, NMSP and general secretary, Nai Ouk-sa, AMDP. The other 15 members are from Mon civil society groups.

“This committee includes two members from each party and nine members from social and oversea organizations,” Nai Tin Aung said.
