Khonumthung — The Chin League for Democracy (CLD)’s Vice-Chairperson Daw Sung Zi Mang, who is running for a seat in the Chin State Parliament, has called on the Union Election Commission (UEC) and its Chairman U Tin Aye to give more voter education to the public.

UEC Chairman U Tin Aye arrived in Chin State’s capital Hakha on October 6th and met with representatives from the government, political parties, religious organizations, and civic society organizations to discuss election affairs.

During his meeting U Tin Aye explained about the UEC efforts regarding voter education and indicated that the commission will follow up with Daw Sung Zi Mang’s request.

“When I was campaigning in rural areas, people [said they] didn’t know they have to vote for three candidates at the same time. The Commission is responsible for this issue,” Daw Sung Zi Mang said.

The government had declared a state of emergency in Chin State due to a natural disaster earlier this year. Transportation and communication remain difficult in Chin State.

Leaders from the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), the National League for Democracy (NLD), the Chin League for Democracy (CLD), the Chin National Democratic Party (CNDP), and the Chin Progressive Party attended U Tin Aye's briefing.
