Moe Kyaw, Khonumthung — The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) organized an information session for candidates running in the Chin State at Carson Hall today.

DSC 0004Candidates from respective constituencies of Hakha, Tiddim, Matupi, Kanpetlet, and Mindat townships in the Chin State and 15 secretaries of the candidates attended the information session.

Among ten political parties running in the election in the Chin State, candidates and officials from the National League for Democracy (NLD), the Chin National Democratic Party (CNDP), the Chin League for Democracy (CLD), and the Ethnic National Development Party (ENDP) attended today’s session.

“Not many people as expected have come due to transportation difficulties. You can say there is a lack of participation. Also, nearly all the candidates have been campaigning in the rural area,” said Daw Sui Sung, an Upper House candidate from the CLD who is running in Hakha Township Constituency No 1.

The information session covers the topics on election calendar, the Union Election Commission and its managements, the duties of the candidates, voter education and voter list, advanced voting, counting the votes and the results, election conflicts, and discussions with officials from the Election Sub-commission.

A total of 273,673 people will vote in 39 constituencies in the Chin State and 202 candidates from the parties and eight independent candidates will run in the election.
