The party has already submitted three of their names to the Union Election Commission (UEC).

Mi Than Shin, the party chairwoman said: “We have already appointed four candidates to compete in the elections. The forms for the three candidates, who will compete in the constituencies of Thanbyuzayat, Mudon and Kyaikmayaw townships [in Mon State], have already been submitted. Because we still need some more information from the fourth candidate who is contesting Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Divison, we have not handed in the form for that candidate yet.”

Mi Than Shin will run for the Thanbyuzayat Township seat in the Amyotha Hluttaw (The House of Nationalities upper house), while Mi Ni Ni Lwin will compete to represent Kyaikmayaw Township in the Amyotha Hluttaw and Mi Moe Moe Khaing will compete to represent Mudon Township in the Pyithu Hluttaw (The House of Representatives lower house). Mi Seik Non (aka Mi Myint Thant) will compete to represent Yebyu Township in Tenasserim Division in the Amyotha Hluttaw.

Mi Moe Moe Khaing said: “There are very few women in parliament. We want to encourage the development of the women’s sector and for women to have an interest in politics.”

According to political observers' analysis the Women’s Party (Mon) has no ward-level or village-level sub-offices, few party members and little experience of elections, which means the party lacks political expertise.

According to the UEC parties who want to compete in Burma's general election must have at least three candidates standing for election.

All candidates have to be registered with the UEC. The deadline for parties to submit candidates names to the UEC is 14 August.
