The news comes days before the elections. Nai Mya Shein's wife, Mi Sorn Aung said: “He did not get to fulfill his people’s desires.”

Because Nai Mya Shein had been receiving medical treatment in Rangoon for the previous two months he had been unable to campaign for the last one and a half months said his representative Nai Chan Aik.

He said: “At the beginning, he could organise campaigns in 2 to 3 places. Because of his health condition, he was sent to Rangoon for medical treatment and then could not continue his campaigning.”

Mi Thazin Htwe, the AMDP Amyotha (House of Nationalities) candidate for Mudon Township’s constituency no (6) said: “He wanted to know whether he would win or lose in the elections if he competed. That was what he told us when he was hospitalized. There were about 10 days left [before the elections] when he passed away, so he did not get to know the result.”

Besides being a singer in a traditional Mon band, Nai Mya Shein was the father of four children. He worked for the Mon State cultural organization and Mudon Township’s Mon literature and culture organization and he also did volunteer work and helped with local development projects.

The elections are too close for the AMDP to be able to field a replacement candidate for the Mudon Township Pyithu Hluttaw seat.

Dr. Min Nwe Soe, the General Secretary of the AMDP said: "Because he [Nai Mya Shein] passed away at this moment, his position cannot be replaced. Please, choose the candidate that represents the Mon people and works for their benefits.”

The remaining candidates standing for the Mudon Township Pyithu Hluttaw seat are: Daw Ei Ei Aye of the National Unity Party (NUP), U Aung Min of the National Democratic Force (NDF), U Kyaw Kyaw Lwin of the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), U Saw Htun of the National League for Democracy (NLD), U Aung Kyi of the National Development Party (NDP), Mi Kyin Thant of the Mon National Party (MNP), and Mi Moe Moe Khaing of the Women’s Party (Mon).
