Health professionals on the Thai Burma border are preparing themselves for dengue fever outbreaks in the region as it has been predicted that 2015 could be a high risk year.

Chris Clifford, chair of the Mae Sot INGO working group that coordinates cross-sector responses told Karen News: “It is important that at this time we promote community awareness – prevention is crucial.”

Mr Clifford said that Mae La Refugee Camp 60kms north of Mae Sot was currently “battling an outbreak” and “as of June 3rd 216 people were diagnosed with dengue fever.”

Mr Clifford said: “International health agencies met with the Thai officials to coordinate efforts to combat the outbreak.”
