Organizers of the Mon National Conference said this year’s focus will be about unifying the Mon people for the 21st Century Panglong Conference (also called Union Peace Conference) that is taking place one week later.
Nai Win Hla, a member of the central executive for the New Mon State Party (NMSP), said: “As the 21st Century Panglong Conference is approaching, our main focus will be having the same voice of the Mon people. We must work on Mon national unification.”
Mi Koon Chan Non, deputy leader of the Mon National Conference Organising Committee, reiterated the NMSP central executive's comments that special emphasis will be put on establishing a unified approach for the upcoming peace conference.
The Mon conference that is held every two years will take place this year from 22 to 24 of August in Taung Pauk Village in Karen State.
