The case of five Arakan Army soldiers who were arrested with arms and ammunition has been under scrutinizing, deputy commander in chief of Arakan Army (AA) said.

“We’ve already received the information and we are still scrutinizing the matter. Since armed clashes are spreading throughout Arakan state, we have to verify who were under arrest and where it occurred,” said Col. Nyo Tun Aung, deputy commander in chief of AA.

While five AA soldiers were hiding in remote area near Sapar-Seik and Aung-Lan-Chaung villages located between Kyauktaw Township in Arakan state and Platwa Township in Chin state in the afternoon of April 19, government troops arrested them, according to the state-owned newspapers referring Myawaddy news agency.

Five AA soldiers under arrest are Kyaw Win (32), SeinKyaw Than (35), Zin Myo Aung (33), Lt. Tun Aung Phyu (30), and Nyi Hlaing (30) who was injured. Arms and ammunition - 5 M22 automatic rifles, 12 magazines, 247 bullets, 5 bombs, and 5 sets of equipment - were seized from them, the news said.

WestMWDAs said by the state-owned newspaper The Mirror, five AA soldiers were interrogated by the authority and found out hidden weapons, 2 M22 automatic rifles, 4 magazines, 80 bullets, 5 bombs, and 2 sets of equipment in a rivulet situated in southeast area of Pain-Ne-Chaung village. In addition, 3 M22 rifles, 8 magazines, 167 bullets, 4 bombs and 3 sets of equipment in another rivulet located northeast of AungLanChaung village.

Five AA soldiers are under interrogation and update information will be disclosed, the news said.

Latest armed clashes between government army and AA troops have been continuing in Kyauktaw Township in Arakan state and Platwa Township in Chin state of western Burma since March 29.
