Villagers in Rathedaung township claim to have seen Myanmar security forces exchange fire in an incident that may have been fuelled by confusion, or an accident.

On May 14 around 10pm, a Tatmadaw soldier on patrol shot and injured a border sentry, according to an alleged eyewitness in Chut Pyin village.

The injured sentry from the Border Guard Forces was identified as Lance Corporal Arkar.

“Lance Corporal Arkar, who received a gunshot wound, was taken from Chut Pyin Village to Zedi Pyin Cottage Hospital by car. He doesn’t seem to be in good condition. His eyes weren’t opened. Now he is being taken to Sittwe by car via A Ngu Maw Road,” the alleged eyewitness said.

The Sittwe-based Infantry Battalion 270 set up camp in Chut Pyin village on May 14.

Narinjara News was unable to contact the Zedi Pyin BGF station to ask for further details as the office phone number was not working.
