U Tun Aung Thein, a member of the Arakan State parliament told Narinjara News that that the internally displaced people (IDPs) were currently sheltering at Thudhammayone Monastery in Buthidaung.

He said: “Although they have been placed at the monastery there may be difficulties with food [supplies]. They are currently being taken care of with aid from donors.”

U Maung Win Naing, who has been helping the IDPs, told Narijara News that there are plans to relocate them to Buthidaung Basic Education High School (1) as there might not be enough room at Thudhammayone Monastery if more IDPs arrive there.

U San Tun who fled from Aung Zeya Village in Maungdaw Township said the situation was very bad and he had fled because there was a lack of both security and food.

He said: “Only middle-aged men are left. The rest of the villagers have run away. When the trouble started the bullets even reached our village.”

IDPs have arrived in Buthidaung from Aung Zeya, Aung Mingalar, Aung Tharyar, and Hpa Wut Chaung villages.
