The Independent Mon News Agency (IMNA) met with Nai Zaw Moe also known as Nai Ye Zaw, an independent candidate who plans to write a thesis on Mon history.  His campaign platform includes a call to make Mon National Day a public holiday and eliminate drugs in all Mon areas.  Nai Zaw Moe also wants to prevent local people from working as migrant workers in other countries for a number of reasons.

Q: Why did you decide to run as a candidate?

A: Ever since I was young, I have had the desire to work for the public good.  I have had a huge interest in politics since I was young. I have decided to run as a candidate as I wanted to take part in politics and carry out the public good.

Q:  What kind of support can you give to the Mon people by running as a candidate in the election?

A: If I’m elected as an MP, I will be fiscally prudent.  Based on three main areas of concern, political issues, economic issues and national issues, I will try my best to plan for what I can do for the regional areas.  I will also carry out a plan to amend the constitution in order to carry out what has been prevented from being done before.  I will submit what laws need to be amended and redrafted.  As a state parliament representative, I won't lose sight of roads, bridges, economic issues, natural disasters, education, and social affairs, all of which are crucial issues for  people in our region.

I need to raise these issues and fight for those who need this.  I will carry out these tasks.

Q: If you are elected as an MP, do you believe you can act on the needs of the Mon people and
other residents of Mon State?

A: If I’m elected, it is quite clear that I will be the person who tries the best to fulfil the needs of Mon State and the Mon people. I’m running for Kyaikmaraw Township State Constituency No 2. It is an area with an abundance of farmland and streams.  Agricultural technology needs to be improved.

There are deep water fields.  If we can get water from them, there will be an increase in farmland. This is also an area where a river pumping irrigation project is located.  The project was not successful for many reasons but I want to give this a chance,

Q: What is needed in the constituency where you are running?

A: We need to control environmental threats caused by the cement factory and halt the coal power plant project that is being planned.  Working abroad and drug use are also issues of concern for the area.

Q: What will be your first priority if you are elected?

A: My first priority is to quickly assist with the basic needs of the public such as livelihoods, transportation and education.
