Aik Sai — The Mon National Party (MNP) is considering submitting a formal letter of objection to the Union Election Commission (UEC) over the use of incorrect colors for the MNP logo on the ballots issued by the UEC. The true logo of the MNP contains a white star and a yellow Hinthar bird, but on the ballots issued by the UEC the color of the star is yellow and the Hinthar bird is white.

The MNP held a press conference at its Mawlamyaing office on Sunday to inform the public about the use of incorrect colours for its party logo on the official ballots, and to announce that the party was considering submitting a formal letter of objection to the UEC.

“We’re planning to submit a letter of objection, but we haven’t submitted it yet because we first want to meet with other parties whose logos were also misprinted on the UEC ballots. After discussing the matter with other affected parties we will decided whether to submit the letter or not,” said U Naing Le Ta Ma from the MNP.

An official from the Mon State Election Sub-Commission said that because the ballots were printed on yellow paper, the white ink appeared as yellow on the finished ballots. The official added that all but one party logo had incorrect colors due to the yellow paper, and that this was not targeted at the MNP in particular.

Candidates from the Mon National Party, the All Mon Regions Democracy Party, the National League for Democracy, the Women’s Party (Mon), the Union Solidarity and Development Party, the National Democratic Force, the National Development Party, the National Unity Party, the Phalon-Sawaw Democratic Party, the Kayin National Party, and the Kayin People’s Party are running in Mon State.

The latest voter list released in September shows that Mon State has over 1.47 million eligible voters, according to the Mon State Election Sub-Commission office. The September voter list does not include the approximately 10,000 migrant workers who have been allowed to vote in Ye Township, Kyaikmaraw Township, Mawlamyaing Township, Chaungzone Township, and Mudon Township after they submitted Form 3A applications, according to the respective Election Sub-Commission offices.
