Aik Sai — The latest voter list for Mon State - released between 14 and 27 September - does not include temporary residents who have submitted their applications to be added to the voter list using Form 3A. At present there are over 800,000 eligible voters in five out of Mon State’s ten townships. But this is set to increase as township-level Election Sub-Commission Offices add voters who have already submitted their 3A Forms.

“We currently have 200,000 people on our voter list. Form 3A applicants haven’t been included yet. Some [temporary residents] have submitted their 3A applications, so [the number of eligible voters] is likely to increase,” said U Htay Lwin, chairman of Mawlamyaing Township Election Sub-Commission’s office.

According to respective township Election Sub-Commission Offices, the number of eligible voters across five of Mon State’s ten townships is: 200,000 in Mawlamyaing Township; 160,000 in Mudon Township; 157,446 in Kyaikmaraw Township; 156,126 in Ye Township; and 123,788 in Chaungzon Township.

Taking into account the temporary residents who have already submitted 3A Forms, more than 10,000 additional voters will be added to the voter lists in these five townships. Broken-down by Township the additional voter numbers are as follows: 4,000 people in Mawlamyaing Township; 1,571 in Mudon Towship; 2,020 in Kyaikmaraw Township; 2,592 people in Ye Township; and 719 people in Chaungzon Township.

“Mudon has over 160,000 eligible voters based on the latest voter list released in September. Over 1,000 migrant workers have applied to vote with Form 3A, and we have already been added them to the voter list,” said an official from the Mudon Township Election Sub-Commission’s office.

Respective townships will release the updated voter lists by November 5, just three days before Election Day.
