Mu Estar — Kayaw people residing in the Hoyar area in Karenni State’s Hpruso Township say they will only support ethnic political parties from their state.

“We will only vote for our ethnic party. We will only vote for our ethnic candidates who we can trust,” said U Paw Lu, an elder from Kharbal village.

Kharbal village administrator U Ho Moe Ei explained that in the opinion of many local residents only ethnic people from Karenni State can work in the public interest.
“We believe they can really help us with our difficulties so we are going to vote for them,” he said.

He added that they cannot trust that candidates from other parties from faraway areas to work in the interest of the state, if they are from another ethnic group.

“If our party gets a position [in the parliament], we will search for solutions with the public for their needs and fulfill the things that the public truly needs,” said U Thae Reh from the All Nationalities Democracy Party, who is running for a seat in the lower house representing Hpruso Township.

He told the Kantarawaddy Times that the fate of Karenni State lies in the hand of each person living in the state and only the people from the state can actually work for the cause of the state, so the public needs to choose wisely without just following the money.
