Sai Phoo — The Shan Nationalities Democratic Party (SNDP), also known as the White Tiger Party, has been campaigning in Kachin State for its chairman to become the state’s chief minister, the party leader tells the Shan Herald. The current Chief Minister of Kachin State is La John Ngan Hsai, a businessman from the USDP.

According to U Sai Ai Pao many Shan people from Kachin State also support the SNDP leader becoming chief minister.

“The White Tiger Party aims to have the Kachin State chief minister as there are only 18 townships in Kachin State. The White Tiger will run in nine townships. If we win all the seats, it’s possible. The situation is good except in Myitkyina,” he explained referring to the Kachin state capital.  Kachin state is home to a large Shan population.

The SNDP held a campaign rally on the Maha Theindawgyi Monastery grounds in Bhamo Township on October 4th.

“We held the campaign rally from 3:30 pm to 6 pm. The significant thing is that campaigning went quite well. There were many Shan people. They said they will support the White Tiger Party,” U Sai Ai Pao said.

The SNDP is an ethnic Shan party that won 57 seats in the 2010 Election most of which came from Shan State. Sai Ai Pao previously served as the Shan State mining minister.
