Sai Aung Myo Lwin — The Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) held a rally in Kachin State’s capital Myitkyina on Tuesday.  During the rally senior party leaders claimed that their party implemented peace, democracy and a federal union.

“The start of the federal union is the USDP. The start of democracy is also our USDP. The one that is  carrying out peace that is desired by everyone is also the USDP,” said U Thein Zaw, the former telecommunications minister during the SPDC Regime and head of USDP in Kachin State.

He also said his party is the best party to lead the country and claimed that most of the parties out of 90 parties running in the election lack strong principles and work programs.

“Please think carefully about which party will be able to rightly lead our country. What will happen to the country if the leadership is taken without the ability to lead the country? You need to choose this,” he added.

U Thein Zaw, who is also the vice-chairman of Union Peacemaking Working Committee, also said there were two crucial factors in the nationwide ceasefire agreement that was recently signed.

These two factors are to immediately implement a stronger ceasefire and hold a guaranteed political dialogues in line with public’s desire.

The USDP’s public rally in Kachin State was held at Kachin National Traditional Culture All-round Sports Ground in addition to U Thein Zaw and Kachin State’s Chief Minister U La John Ngan Hsai spoke as well.

During his remarks U La John Ngan Hsai  claimed that Kachin State has better roads and bridges, electricity, hospital, and schools due to the USDP’s efforts.

A large crowd of people wearing hats and shirts bearing the USDP logo and holding USDP flags attended the rally. Organizers claimed that an estimated 10,000 people from Myitkyina, Waingmaw, and Mogaung attended the rally. This claim could not however be verified.
