San Maung Than — The Arakan National Party (ANP), who won the majority of seats in Arakan State during last month's election, began a three day meeting on Friday in preparation for forming the next state government.

The plenary meetings of the Central Leading Committee and the Central Committee was held on December 5 and 6. A followup meeting for the parliamentary representatives will be held on Monday December 7.

“I think we need to discuss how to form the Arakan State government and cooperate with other ethnic parties in carrying out national issues,” said U Aye Thar Aung, one of the top leaders of the ANP. He was elected as an Upper House candidate from Minbya and Myebon townships.

The ANP won 10 out of 12 seats in the Upper House, 12 out of 17 seats in the Lower House, and 22 out of 34 seats in the State Parliament during last month's election. The ANP came third overall during the election. U Aye Thar Aung said there will not be any changes in leadership in the meeting and it is expected to solve internal issues of the party.

“It’s not difficult to have unity if we can place our focus on the national interest” he said.
